The unsaid is looking for a voice
You are holding the second volume in a series that highlights Holger Dülken's photographic work over the past few years.
Even if you go through difficult times as a human being, you don't lose your diversity. Perhaps one initially has the urge to hide, to make oneself invisible, to want to be alone. But it is precisely in this situation that taking pictures can help – by letting go of your emotions, releasing them and giving them a face. A face in the picture. And then maybe something will come into being that would not have come about without these pictures. Despite everything, an acceptance of what is. A courageous stepping out of yourself. Perhaps also a new self-image and a new self-knowledge. Images can help the innermost thoughts and feelings to find their way to the outside. You might learn things about yourself that you wouldn't have learned without these pictures.
Holger Dülken's series of monographs from the "Lochbildfotografie" cycle shows a modern visual language with technical borrowings from the historical times of the camera obscura. A unique pictorial language takes us on a journey into the photographer's world of emotions and shows us, contrary to technical advances, the expressiveness of artistic photography.
Through the black and white photography in the style of the perforated image technique, the soul crystallizes out in the pictures in a very special way - the essence is preserved, the insignificant disappears in the shadows and in the blur.
Holger Dülken has his own unmistakable black and white photographic signature.
The series is accompanied by texts and thoughts by Andreas Neu, a Berlin author, director and dramaturge, who, through his associations, makes a very personal reflection on the images.

The Unsaid Seeks The Voice
What you hold in your hands is the second volume of a series that highlights the photographic work of Holger Dülken in the last few years.
Even though we may go through difficult times, we still keep our personality with its many facets. Maybe at first, we want to hide, to become invisible and to be alone. But it is exactly in such a situation where having a photo session can help – by releasing the emotions, letting them go and letting them become visible so we can take a look at them. This may lead to experiences that would not have been possible otherwise. Acceptance of the way things are, despite all of the difficulties. Finding the courage to come out of the shell. Perhaps a new self-image is born and new self-awareness. Pictures can help our innermost thoughts and feelings to find a way to get expressed in the outside world. Maybe we even learn things about ourselves we would never have found out without these pictures.
The series of the cycle „hole pattern photography“ shows a modern imagery applying some historical techniques of the pinhole camera era. A unique imagery takes us to the journey into the author’s photographic emotional world and demonstrates the vigour of artistic expression in contrast to technical high development.
In the black-and-white pictures in pinhole camera style the soul of a person emerges in a very unique way – the essence remains untouched; the insignificant parts disappear in the shadows and the blur.
Holger Dülken‘s signature style are unique, characteristic pictures in black and white.
Texts and thoughts, which were written by Berlin-based author, director and dramaturg Andreas Neu, provide a framework for this book series. He reflects in a very personal way on the connotations these photos can evoke.
