    Before disappearing into the dark
You are holding the fourth volume in a series that highlights the photographic work of Holger Dülken over the past few years.

Invisible, barely perceptible. Visible in the image through a mask. A mask? I am ME, my body is ME, not a mask. In pictures grace and forlornness, laughing, crying - I am. And sometimes masked too. A mask that protects me, not makes me invisible - in the picture, as in life. Everyone wears masks, me too, they belong to me, to us. They become visibly invisible in pictures that show the essence. Show beauty and naturalness. In a trusting atmosphere, they can fall. Or show, reveal. This requires openness, trust, an atmosphere that allows feelings, one person who sends them out and another who perceives and captures them. Accompany the situation with your own feelings. This interplay becomes visible in pictures, the stories  tell about me and you. Same here.

Holger Dülken's series of monographs from the "Lochbildfotografie" cycle shows a modern visual language with technical borrowings from the historical times of the camera obscura. A unique pictorial language takes us on a journey into the photographer's world of emotions and shows us, contrary to technical advances, the expressiveness of artistic photography.
Through the black and white photography in the style of the perforated image technique, the soul crystallizes out in the pictures in a very special way - the essence is preserved, the insignificant disappears in the shadows and in the blur.
Holger Dülken has his own unmistakable black and white photographic signature.
The series is accompanied by texts and thoughts by Andreas Neu, a Berlin author, director and dramaturge, who, through his associations, makes a very personal reflection on the images.

    Before Vanishing Into The Dark
What you hold in your hands is the fourth volume of a series  that highlights the photographic work of Holger Dülken.

Invisible, barely noticeable. It becomes evident in a mask we see  in pictures. A mask? I am ME; my body is ME and not a mask. Pictures that show grace and forsakenness, laughter, cries – this is ME. Sometimes with a mask. A mask that protects me and can make me invisible - in a photo as well as in life. We all wear masks, including ME; they belong to me, to us all. They become visibly invisible in pictures that show the essence of a person, their beauty and naturalness. In an atmosphere of  trust, the mask may even be dropped. Or revealed.
A precondition for this is openness, trust and an atmosphere in which we can show our emotions and know that there is someone who can perceive and capture them. Someone who accompanies us in this situation with their own emotions. This interaction becomes visible in pictures that tell stories about  you and me Just like these pictures.

The series of the cycle "hole pattern photography" shows a modern imagery applying some historical techniques of the pinhole camera era. A unique imagery takes us to the journey into the author's photographic emotional world and demonstrates the vigor of artistic expression in contrast to technical high development.
In the black and white pictures in pinhole camera style the soul of a person emerges in a very unique way – the essence remains untouched; the insignificant parts disappear in the shadows and the blur.
Holger Dülken's signature style are unique, characteristic pictures in black and white.
Texts and thoughts, which were written by Berlin-based author, director and dramaturg Andreas Neu, provide a framework for this book series. He reflects in a very personal way on the connotations of these photos can evoke.
