Tango fatal
You are holding the sixth volume in a series that contains the photographic work of Holger Dülken from the past years to the point.
In contrast to the first volume, this second volume with Sarafina opens up a more or less coherent narrative strand instead of associative moments of individual images - i.e. a picture story. Here, too, the monographic series unfolds a specific quality, in that the sequence of images results in something that goes beyond the individual image.
Holger Dülken's series of monographs from the "Lochbildfotografie" cycle shows a modern visual language with technical borrowings from the historical times of the camera obscura. A unique pictorial language takes us on a journey into the photographer's world of emotions and shows us, contrary to technical advances, the expressiveness of artistic photography.
Through the black and white photography in the style of the perforated image technique, the soul crystallizes out in the pictures in a very special way - the essence is preserved, the insignificant disappears in the shadows and in the blur.
Holger Dülken has his own unmistakable black and white photographic signature.
The series is accompanied by texts and thoughts by Andreas Neu, a Berlin author, director and dramaturge, who, through his associations, makes a very personal reflection on the images.

Interrupted Tango
You hold in your hands the sixth volume of a series that highlights the photographic work of Holger Dülken in the last few years.
Unlike the first volume, this second volume with Sarafina doesn't consist of single photos who evoke free associations but rather of a more or less coherent narrative flow – a picture story, if you will. The specific quality of this monographic series unfolds through a sequence of pictures creating something that is greater than the sum of its parts.
The series of the cycle "hole pattern photography" shows a modern imagery applying some historical techniques of the pinhole camera era. A unique imagery takes us to the journey into the author's photographic emotional world and demonstrates the vigor of artistic expression in contrast to technical high development.
In the black and white pictures in pinhole camera style the soul of a person emerges in a very unique way – the essence remains untouched; the insignificant parts disappear in the shadows and the blur.
Holger Dülken's signature style are unique, characteristic pictures in black and white.
Texts and thoughts, which were written by Berlin-based author, director and dramaturg Andreas Neu, provide a framework for this book series. He reflects in a very personal way on the connotations of these photos can evoke.
